We must
Filipinos are known for being one of the most admirable people
here on Earth because of their positive traits. One of these is
"Paki" which is a typical personality trait of the Filipino people.
This includes “pakikisama” or “pakikipagkapwa”, “pakikialam”, etc. “Pakikisama”
or “pakikipagkapwa” means going along with others and sharing one’s wealth,
talent, time and self with fellow human beings. “Pakikialam” is caring to your
fellow people and surroundings.
Since we now have an idea of what “Paki” is, let us focus on “Pakikisama”
since it is s big and influential factor. In fact, it has the capacity to influence
the whole of an individual. I believe that it is a driving force for a person
to participate in activities. This may help youth to enhance their youthful
energy and a kind of sense of belongingness with others. Also, they can be
motivated to work for some ideas by knowing that others in the same generation
have similar views to their own. During this time, the good value of “Pakikisama”
which is born from simple enjoyment, fun trips and association can therefore be
carried to the extremes.
On the other hand, “Pakikisama” can be
corrupted and may result to peer pressure which causes one to pursue popular,
trendy and commonly accepted behaviors so they will not be left behind and
alienated from the peers. This may push a person to submit him/herself to
his/her “barkada”.
Nevertheless, it’s always better to get along with everyone else
and that it’s always good to be liked by everyone and “Pakikisama” is one of
the rules that binds us, Filipinos in our daily lives.
